I try a Dollar Tree clothing pack so you don't have to

In the past, when the Dollar Tree at Christown Spectrum Zombie Mall has carried fashion-doll clothing packs, they've looked so ghastly that resistance was easy. However, this year, we have a pack with JEANS.

Those purple accessories go with nothing.
Hoping that the jeans were not stitched to the top in some manner that prevented separating them, I bought a set. I can make fashion-doll jeans, but for $1, maybe I don't want to.

The jeans are separate! The pack contains five pieces: jeans, top, ornate high-heeled shoes, and non-opening purse. The purse and shoes match one another but nothing else.

We start to suspect Dollar Tree Beauties don't always live a wholesome life.
Look who's here for the first try on! It's Tamra Nuncio, the 99 Cents Only beauty who runs the gym at Miss Hanzo's spa.
I am so tired of wearing satin scanties.
Uh oh! The top has velcro on only one edge. It fastens by having the velcro adhere to the fabric. Now that is cheap construction.

Eep. Just eep.
The top doesn't really even fit. The good news is that the pants and the shoes do fit the variety of fashion doll that they were designed for. This is not a given: Lovely Patsy's clothes fit Lovely Patsy only about 50% of the time.

I look like I threw on whatever wasn't in the laundry basket.
What we really want to know is if these clothes fit any more popular fashion doll. The shoes are a non-starter, of course -- those'll be good only for knock-offs with little pointy feet. The jeans, however, are an acceptable fit on a Fashionista, as Elena Rodriguez shows us.

I sort of like these!
Since the jeans aren't full-length, I thought I'd try them on a classic Bratz. Sure enough, the pants fit -- a little loose. With the shirt, the effect is pathetic.

This had better be my spirit rally outfit or something.
I was going to put Tamra in the jeans with a better top, but when I went to the fashion-doll clothing drawer, the first garment to catch my eye was a dress that probably came on some thrift-store doll, since I don't remember buying it (though it looks like Sparkle Girlz wear). So the jeans go in the stash and Tamra gets to coach tennis or something.

I think I'm almost ready to have my hair replaced with glitter.

    1. Aw, thanks! Poor Tamra always gets the short end of everything, and she lives a life of repressed fear.

    1. Yeah, doesn't the Fashionista body look tiny? And these are healthier proportions than the old-style Barbies.

She also convinces me that she should be wearing pants, not the super-primitive dress she's been in for over a year.

  3. Thank you for spotlighting the fit. I see fashion in the Dollar Tree and sometimes I am tempted to buy. Fortunately, I keep telling myself I have to use all the materials I keep buying to actually make clothes. For a dollar, those jeans are still a pretty good deal.

    1. You're welcome! I wouldn't touch the dresses in the Dollar Tree clothing packs -- they make my worse day of sewing look adequate.

I've been passing up Sparkle Girlz packs lately on exactly your reasoning -- I can do it myself. And then I actually do it only sporadically. Meh.

  6. S.P this is sooooo funny! But if you do have dolls who can wear the shoes, consider giving them a splash of silver nail polish. (Everything looks better in silver!!!)

  7. The jeans seem like a good deal! Velcro on only one half of a shirt sounds like a bad idea :-). Merry Christmas!

  8. LOL and it really looked so neat in the package. I have seen that same shoe design in Mattel shoes.

  9. The clothes seem to be a bootleg of the Barbie fashion pack from 2014.
