January acquisitions

I shopped myself into a stupor. It started so simply.

Nice doggie.
Alejandra, a Madame Alexander Travel Friend (thank you, Tuesday Morning), makes friends with Marisol, who is of course Made To Move Teresa, as there was no way I was going to hold out forever.

It all started with Teresas (Teresai?), but it didn't stop there.

Marisol definitely has a greater range of movement than Elena (Fashionista Sporty). She also appears to have a smaller head and more natural brows.

Elena is fascinated by the concept of touching one's own face.
It seemed like a good time to do a group shot of all the Teresai, particularly as I'd found another 1990s articulated one at Goodwill. This is when I realized that I'm not sure I have names for all of them or that I remember their names.

Front: Elena Rodriguez.
Middle: Deanna, Maria-Eugenia, Marisol.
Back: Paloma, Jesenia.
It may be time to put together a comprehensive list of names and back stories. But before that... Alejandra needed a friend.

May I pet your puppy?
Antonia was marked down to $7.99 at the Toys R Us Express at Arizona Mills Mall, a terrifying place where small children ride motorized stuffed zoo animals at high speeds. I had sort of gone there sort of hoping to find her.

Companionship neither lessens the terror of Valentina nor the terrifying hunger of Yelena.

Everybody here has such big heads, Alejandra!
The arrival of the Stacies, Nastia and Miranda, provides more normal-sized companionship.

Everybody loves a puppy!
Meanwhile, Akilah Nichelle has found a younger sister. Meet Keyshia, who was marked down to $3 at Marshall's. Keyshia has articulated elbows and knees!

Keyshia, I don't think you're dressed for Arizona.
Keyshia joins a mob of diverse young friends in the early-years-of-high-school crowd. A few have shown up here, notably D'Heath (Gothic Tales), Daria (vintage Bratz Yasmin), Thorne, Sophina (Moxie Girlz)... and a mysterious blonde.

The gloves are for a skin condition.
Sylvie is the Skipper head acquired with last year's Polar Bear Club... mounted on an Ever After High Madeleine Hatter body that my parents had picked up at a thrift store. After three boil-washings, Mom still couldn't get Madeleine's hair to not be sticky and gross. I tried another boil-wash. I took the doll home, cut her hair, and washed it again. I pulled off her head to remove her hair and replace it with something else... and just replaced the whole head.

I think we're all happier this way.

Then, at Ross, I succumbed to the lure of the New Bratz. Raya, the blonde in front with the HUGE feet, was $8. She was the only Bratz in the store, so I felt it was kismet.

Back: Shira, Phoebe, Ynez, and Cloe.
Front: Raya and Misha.
Note that Raya has proper Bratz eyes with the slant -- and there's no fear in her expression!

It seemed like the moment for a Bratz/Bratzillas family photo. Maaan, I have a lot of them. At that's not even counting knock-offs.

Back: Shira, Phoebe, Ynez, Cloe, Cloe Jean
Second: Emanuelle, Raya, Misha, Daria, Olivia
Third: Fianna Fins, Meygana, Meygan, Katia
Front: Yelena, Fairuza, Yasmin

The score for Teresas and Yasmins is currently tied at 6:6.

  1. That's how it always starts, doesn't it? With one little doll! When I get home, I always say: "I have no idea how these dolls or doll items got in my cart! They must have jumped in before I made it to the checkout counter!" You do have a great bunch there!

    1. Yeah, Phyllis. Dolls are notorious for inviting their friends and family into our homes without our prior knowledge. Has happened to me MANY times!!!

    2. The "one little one" phenomenon has proven especially pernicious with Sparkle Girlz Minis. I haven't yet admitted to owning ANY, yet I somehow have three.

    1. Thanks! I apparently am obsessed with Latina fashion dolls, which I guess makes sense for an Arizonan.

  4. That's a solid set of additions! Nice!

And now I'm wondering if I should go and check out my local Tuesday Morning for the Travel Friends - I picked up one when they first came out, but at a sale price I think I could be convinced to add some more...

    1. Get 'em while they're hot! Or before your local TM closes... my usual one in south Scottsdale packed its tents and vanished in the night. (Fortunately, there are two others on the way home from work.)

  5. Great haul. It's nice to see everyone together! I know just what you mean about the children riding motorized zoo animals at high speeds...that just showed up at our mall as well, lol. I love that you have Fiona Fins! I'm sorry I missed out on her..she's a beaut.

    1. She was clearanced at Walmart last year -- I wasn't going to do Bratzillas, but sparkliness appealed greatly. Then I rescued Meygana from a flea market seller who was struggling to comb out her hair.

  7. I use to love collecting Teresa. It is too bad that Mattel did away with her face mold. Nice eclectic collection!

    1. Thanks! Yeah, I admit I have a weakness for the 1990s Teresa mold. Getting an articulated ONE of those was a sort of grail doll...

  9. Wow, you did well. I love those travel friends. I may have to look for those. I can't believe you found Keyshia for $3. I need to hit Marshalls, and TJ to see what I can find. I love the Teresa mold and have quite a few of them. I always had a hard time passing on the Teresa dolls. I'm happy they are no longer available. Lol.
