Another Day, Another Quest for Smaller Monster High People

My dismay over grocery shopping means I tend to reward myself with a trip down the toy aisle, which is why I have five (?) Sparkle Girlz Minis, five miniature My Little Ponies, the shy forest creature from a couple weeks ago, and... articulated miniature Monster High persons made by Mega Bloks.
Where the Kroger toy aisle is concerned, this was not my first rodeo.
On a prior trip, I'd picked up Cleo de Nile and Draculaura because I believed the MH persons were being clearanced at Ghetto!Kroger. They fit nicely with the Avon miniatures my parents sent; I declared they'd have a house someday; I went back to working on the half-scale hotel.

The girls have brought their living room suite outdoors to enjoy the fall weather.
But no!

Someone straightened the vestigial toy aisle and did a markdown from $3.99 to $3.29. So I figured I'd get one more and properly de-box her this time -- a process that led to a few discoveries. First, the package comes with a sheet displaying all the other monsters that we're supposed to be immediately hooked on buying (and that reveals these must come in waves, if this is wave 2).

We can swap around bodies?
Second, the dolls come with stands, in the form of a flat blok. Their feet have holes that fit over the nubs. I don't know what I did with the bloks from the first two. Toralei seems to like her stand well enough.

Mreowww!
Toralei's appeal was mostly the chic haircut, though I was also curious about the tail. Her hands are shaped to grip her accessories nicely.

Don't stare at my ass!
The most exciting discovery from exploring their range of motion is how well they can cross their legs while sitting (as Draculaura demonstrates).

Cleo, I don't think that's the yoga pose shown in the magazine.
Swapping body parts, as in the diagram that came with the package, works and is frankly disturbing, as well as leading to some severe cases of "thrift store chic." Cleo's and Toralei's outfits could almost be made to work together, but Draculaura's pinks clash violently.

Now that we're in disguise, if we slip out the back door, no one will recognize us!
The Mega Bloks MH gals pose with their larger relatives: authentic Cleo and D'Laura, fakie Gothic Tales D'Heather, and 5" tall Midnight Magic Mini Adele.

The Draculauras are thrilled by their expanding family...
Cleo, not so much.

  1. Hello Smaller Places! I don't own any of those Mega Blocks Monster High miniatures. I think it's interesting the way they made everything and everyone smaller scale, and they can also be used as toys for the larger dolls.

    Cheers!

  3. I had no idea those dolls were articulated like that. That's pretty neat.

    1. Neither did I, but I seem to spend a lot of time staring blankly at the toy half-aisle in the local Kroger-variant!

  4. I had to laugh at your first statement about grocery shopping, but I am the same way!! I go to Walmart every Sunday morning and the only thing that gets me up and out of bed is knowing that I can treat myself with a new doll or figure to add to my collection, lol. It helps!!
I really love these little MH Megabloks too...they are painfully stoic in expression, but fun to pose and take outside for some fun photos. :) Lovely post as always!

    1. Thanks! I've found other divertissements at Fry's, too, but they're still at the office...

  5. I too, had to laugh at your statement about rewarding yourself. I've been doing this since I was in college (many moons ago). Rewarding myself for a difficult day. It's how I amassed so many "So in Style" Barbies!!! Hey, if they make you feel good and it doesn't cost too much....why not!

    1. Ha! The problem is that I define *all* grocery shopping as "difficult"! Fry's basically gets a $2.50 tax from me in the form of blind bags or whatever.
